Whoaha that was wild…or was it? Thats my desk I keep telling people about, it weighs about 300 pounds and I had to drive out in the boonies to get it. I believe it’s an architects table since the guy I bought it from now owns goats and used to be in Architecture.

• “Whats the deal with that hoof leg?”

It’s just a piece of wood that I found that looked like a leg. It says in the video whats it for. But if you want to see a better photo of it…

• “What are you filming next?”

WELL! Glad you asked! Stay tuned as I’m working on Illustrating more of my conversations and general observations…I’ll give you a hint. It has to do with the hulk.

My blogs feel a bit…sub par lately and I wanted to give viewers a better insight as to where the work comes from. This is the intro to a series that i’m starting now and I aim at updating once a week with the Illustrations from the videos linked to my flickr account and put into the notes below each post. ENJOY IT.

Yes, I do wear that lab coat every time I work. +1 point if you noticed my Logo on the chest pocket. -2 if you read this first and then saw it cause I said it.

What started this was Rosemarys and myself general skype talks. I love the ideas we come up with and how fast we get them done. All I have to do now is wait for Rose’s drawing of Hank Venture then we’ll MECHIA SHIVA IT UP! GREAT TALK ROSE!

Well how about that. The good people at Nice Paper Toys featured the the 2nd round of Nanibirds. Not only can you get the 2 birds I designed but whole lot of other nice paper toys that they feature. There’s a lot of wild stuff. CHOP CHOP GO!

The 2nd drawing to my “Bird Watchers Guide.”

Hello Happy people,

This summer I started what I call a “Bird Watchers Guide,” seen here in a previous post. Now I continue you the series with another drawing I did a couple weeks back. Remember the premsis of these drawings is what it sounds like they’re saying.

TODAY! We have the Brown Thrush? Thrasher? who cares…it’s brown and has some spots with big yellow eyes. Time to wrap this one up since I don’t feel like making this post all that long. He’s saying Yerba. When you actually hear this birds call it’s like a screech, it gets annoying. Avoid this bird at all costs.

YEAH BIRDS! MORE BIRDS! I really love the idea for nanibirds so I sent Josh and e-mail and asked him if I could design a few. Head on over to NaniBird and click on Batch Two to download them.

I like drawing birds, always have and probably always will and luckily for me turns out people really dig the way I draw them. OH YEAH! The above NaniBird is called “Hyper Kinetic Sparrow.”

I decided to do two of them to tinker with my sketchbook style and my usual wax jutsu approach. I noticed in the last run of these birds that they were all done digitally which to me isn’t very fun. I do enjoy digital work but thats not my bag. So I printed them out, wax style Jutsu on one and pen on the other. I didn’t even fold them up to see how they looked so odds are when you print them out you’ll see overlapping red, yellow and black so it’s pretty exciting to see what they look like all folded up.  Heres the other one titled “Doodle Bird.”

Go on and print these two out you know you want to. RACE YA! GO!

I write jokes. A lot of them. My life’s mission is to find the funny in situations and show other people what I found, sometimes they don’t want to HEAR it…so I’m drawing it.

This happened to me last year or so around this time give or take a month when I was sick with Mono. I went to the doctors office and I’ve always found them to be funny and ironic but when I went this time there wasn’t anything too funny…until this old couple walked in and the rest is on paper.

You might have a hard time reading this joke since in reality it’s about 2′ long and I don’t understand flickr all that well yet so there could be a way I can show this full scale but It always resizes my images to 800×160. I’m having a hard time and I need to see it bigger.

Anyways. I’ve read some of Scott McClouds books on making and understand comings and I’ve also read a good book on structure of jokes but you can’t learn telling jokes from a book but, it was ok to start with. I practice the rest everyday sharpening my wit. When I read comics I don’t necessarily like how each scene is drawn in a box and what not. I enjoy it on some but it I can’t make it work for what I have in mind. What if your joke is a long run on sentence with endless information and ideas flying in from all sorts of directions? I don’t know about you, but this is what I do, I just keep drawing until I stop talking…and let me tell you that takes a lot of paper.

TAKE THAT MOTHER EARTH!
(I’m actually really environmentally friendly. For example, I’ll decompose when I die. Gotta give something back right?)

This is a personal piece that I started a few weeks back. It came about when I was talking to a friend of mine about how I developed my way of working…keep in mind this is only the rough.

When I was in college I had a hard time finding how I drew and where my Illustration ideas came from with all these things to think about and  artists to look up into our heads with no time for it to sink in. We had a week off every 7 weeks but thats not long enough for things to sink in with me. See, my brain is like a Tivo, it records everything I tell it to  but I don’t necessarily watch it until much much later. In fact I’m just starting to tune into things from my painting class in 1st year Illustration. haha

I really started to think about things the very last month of my final year. Our teacher gave us an assignment that would last 3 weeks, it was about figuring out who we were. So everyday for a few hours I would go home and write things down about myself that I knew, then I would just listen and watch to how I responded to things I didn’t know about myself. This was actually my favorite assignment of the year because it really focused on how we work and…how we WORK. haha.  I knew I had a really short attention span and a short fuse so I worked that into how I would draw and so far, so good.

Dialog is another place where I get my ideas from and when my friend asked me “How did you find your voice” …I thought about it and said pretty much what I rambled about in the beginning but I says to him I says “It was hard to find my own voice when everyone around me was yelling.” So I drew a bird in a cage with other birds squawking around him. THATS IT. YAY BIRDS!

Few days back my family and I went out to dinner, while waiting I took out the old moleskine and started drawing the butter. This is what happens when the service is really slow and I get bored.

I always thought that Margarine was OK but it turns out that “BUTTAH IS BETTAH” Or so say them all…what do you think?
